QR Codes have been around for a number of years and have always been touted as the next big thing. Whilst over the years it failed to reach the mainstream, 2011 is finally finding its place and helping businesses take their offline promotions, activities and interactions online.

This is, for the most part, thanks to the growing number of us who have iPhones and smartphones and access to barcode-scanning applications – the requirements for QR Codes to have any effect.

A QR Code directs mobile users to a specific mobile optimised webpage that relates to the audience, event or promotion and can offer exclusive content, prizes and coupons.

Where people would have to enter a competition by filling out a form or waiting to go home to “Like” your Facebook Page, they can now do it straight from their mobiles via QR Codes.

The ability to capture people interests at the time is why our clients IBUL-Media and WallCann trialled the use of QR Codes at the Caravan and Camping Show, Adelaide Showgrounds.

Using the QR Codes on balloon and banners, the Codes link mobile users directly to a webpage. IBUL-Media and WallCann are launching a new approach to online shopping allowing people to purchase products online whilst at the Show.

This is where the future of QR Codes lies – taking online shopping out of the home. No longer will you have to go home from an event and then purchase, you will be able to buy straight away just by the click of a button on your mobile.
